Kinky Boots Its All In The Heel! By Olin Meadows

KINKY_BOOTS_TOUR_1_08_14_0373-Edit - resizedWhat do you get when you combine drag queens, British accents, shoes, and music by Cyndi Lauper? You get an award winning musical that holds nothing back! Cyndi Lauper and Harvey Fierstein have created a show that tugs at the heart strings while dazzling your eyes! The story of two men who feel as they are misunderstood by their fathers, and who feel that they have let them down. It is a story that is special and yet relatable to everyone in the audience.

The show is a lead by “Charlie” played by Adam Kaplan and the stunningly gorgeous “Lola” played by J. Harrison Ghee. Ghee as Lola is stunning. Every move He/She makes is perfection. Ghee has the power house voice of a diva and the looks to match! Ghee does no wrong in this show! Adam Kaplan as Charlie is not as impressive. Kaplan is good but compared to the powerhouse that is Ghee as Lola he pales in comparison. Kaplan has the sweet handsome looks of a boy next door, and he is a great actor, however it’s his singing voice that is not that strong.

But, the real stars of the show are “Lola’s Angels” a group of stunning drag queen back up dancers from Lola’s London Night Club. These “Angels” are played by Joe Beouregard, Joseph Anthony Byrd, Sam dowling, Sam Rohloff, Rickey Schroeder, and Juan Torres-Falcon. These talented men make gorgeous ladies who sing, act and dance their eyelashes off. These ladies are so entertaining, and they make those boots work their heels off!

The production as a whole is great but the costumes designed by Gregg Barnes are gorgeous! Lola looks stunning every moment and those angels make a trench coat look like a couture gown! Barnes work is fitting for all the aspects of this show, the wardrobe for the factory workers is exactly what you would expect, and then the costumes for Lola and the Angels are visions in sequins.

All of that aside it is the story by Fierstein, and the Music by Lauper that make you want to come back as soon as you KINKY_BOOT_TOUR_9_05_14_2983_MAN_TWO_FINAL_v001 - resizedcan! The music takes you from upbeat sexy with “Sex Is In The Heel” to wanting to jump up and hug the cast in “Not My Father’s Son.”

All in All this show is everything! You need to see it while you can, a solid six out of five stars! Don’t miss this landmark musical!
